Cat of the Day

Meet Oatmeal, my daughter's new kitten from the ASPCA.
She sort of reminds me of Eclyse.

Hey, at least I'm not talking about politics.

The Princess hates her, btw.

Oh Scalpel! They are beautiful!

oatmeals markings are spectacular. Her head/face seems older/wiser than her body. What an expression. She'll grow up with your daughter. :)

We have a 9 year old black and white male cat who's markings look like he's wearing a tuxedo and white high tops. He's a beautiful cat with a lot of energy. We tried to keep him as an indoor cat but gave up.

Honestly, I have a love-hate relationship with him. I love him but hate, loathe his destructible habits that I can't break him of. We never had cats this difficult. I have questioned my karma that I should have such a cat who leaves wakes of destruction behind him even though he gets to run outdoors!

The most expensive habit is he destroys our screens on all doors and windows. The sliding door screen is 100.00 to replace. Our other cats just stood at the door and meowed to come in. Not him. he jumps up on every screen like he is spider cat! Of course we let him in when we know he is there but if we don't know it he proceeds to go to whatever room he thinks we might be in and attack the screen.

Do you or anyone have any ideas????

I may never get another cat because of him. Of course I say that and then life sends a critter to cross our paths who needs a home.

Water is usually an effective and harmless kitty training aid. Probably a very ingrained habit by now, but you could try dousing him with a spray bottle of water while he is hangin' out on the screen.

Awwww...they're so cute! Oatmeal has very interesting coloration & I probably would have picked her up, too. (I've had a few former shelter kitties over the years, and I usually go for ones that are distinctively colored or else particularly friendly. Both if I'm lucky.) Your other cat will get used to her...it might take some time & some general hissing, spitting, and feline confrontation, but with any luck they'll eventually get used to each other and become buddies. If not, tolerance works too. Best of luck with the newcomer.

My cats and I agree that your new addition is quite cute. A keeper. Well, that's what I think, anyway. My cats are on the fence. They'll get back to you!

Lily is correct. In no time, Princess and Oatmeal will be chasing each other around and around the house.

(Noisily. At 2am.)

The Princess' real name is Whiskers, but we call her Wisky for short.

Princess is lovely as is Oatmeal. You know that color pattern is called a dilute calico I believe. My daughter's cat Daphne, who acts like Nanna on Peter Pan, has a tiara too.

I've decided not to get another cat though, because I have found that they quit socializing with the humans as much. Of course if they're in your hair a lot, it's great.

You know our cat Daphne is so strange. Have you ever seen a full grown cat who will lie down next to a baby so the baby can grab it? When my daughter would have screaming tantrums the cat would leap into the air and bat her face gently with her paws to make her laugh. She sleeps on my daughter every night. I don't know why they bonded so well, but they have.

My cat comes when I call her? If one of the kids gets out of bed she sounds the alarm and tattles on them. She stays off of the counters, and won't eat people food, so she doesn't beg. I've owned a lot of cats, but never one like her.

Amy...can I send sneakers over to you for delinquent rehab?

He is our 4th cat and the others did not do the destructive things he does. I think he has ME trained! :)

She is a lovely orange, white and bluepoint queen. I have a Torbie. I think they are meaner than normal cats, possibly due to the genetics. Or maybe just that they are all (2999/3000)
females.

Maybe she's not photogenic, but Oatmeal looks just a little bit evil to me.....

Oatmeal reminds me of the kitty on #1 Dino's blog - see the yin and yang cats at the bottom: http://dinosaurmusings.blogspot.com/

Might want to check if Dino's missing a cat??? :)
