I remember one time when I was driving from Chicago to Minneapolis, I was going down a long stretch of straight, flat highway with two large ridges flanking the road on either side. I saw some motion way ahead, and very quickly it resolved itself into two warthogs flying very low and very fast down the highway. They went right over our heads -- fast and very loud -- banked left, up to the ridgeline, and executed a 180 and went back the way they came.

Too cool.

Scalpel, are the Warthogs also called BUFFs?

(sigh) Seeing these makes me miss the El Toro Marine Base all over again.

lynn,

BUFF is an endearing term for the B-52.

Something like "Big Ugly Flying F--ker"

I'm sure someone will provide the correct answer.

Awesome videos-awesome sound tracks!

I love the sound of the power when jets are getting ready for takeoff, etc., and I could hang out around them all day.

Military stuff is cool except I hate that they have to be used for killing. I believe in a strong national defense and we certainly have the power to do a lot of damage but so many restraints. It seems that Vietnam and this war our hands were/are tied and because of that everything drags on. I know it's not a black and white issue.

There was something written in a letter or journal (sorry -I don't recall now) where the leader of North Vietnam said something like " I didn't think we could win the war against South Vietnam but then when I saw all the political unrest, etc., I thought if we just keep at it they will weaken and we will win." That was not verbatim but I am sure it could be googled. It was an interesting and not something I had ever heard about until a few years ago.

Sorry off target (no pun intended) Scalpel. The videos resurrected some old memories.

Ah, that's right - the B-52. Thanks, Anon. And, yes, the acronym is correct. That I DO remember!
