Farting, as seen on infrared film.

And to think I doubted your sense of humor.
I call BS on the fart-cam. The FLIR movie with the gasoline fumes seems legit -- it would make sense that the gasoline fumes appear dark and smoky in IR since they'd be cooler than the surrounding air, in contrast to the warmer objects like the truck tires glowing bright white.
But a fart would emerge at body temp, presumably warmer than the surrounding air -- so wouldn't it look like a WHITE cloud? I think the allegedly flatulent dude in the video had an aerosol can hidden in his left hand.
Awesome, but you know the smell doesn't move that fast.
There's always a few seconds delay with my husband. I have just enough time to cover my nose.
Now they need to do the infrared with a blow torch in the fart zone. That would be fun.

I don't think it's going off of the infrared radiation emitted by heated objects, like we're used to seeing from infrared cameras, but just by looking at some specific wavelength of infrared light and how much is reflected by various objects. My guess is that it's filtered to look at a wavelength near the strongest absorption peak of the hydrocarbon you want to see. Since very little radiation of that wavelength will pass through the vapor, it'll appear dark on the camera.
While the video is amusing, take a moment and consider the anatomical location of the anus vs. where the jet of gas is. THe lines don't match up.
Then again, maybe I'm just being too anal-itical. {smirk}
That cracks me up! (No pun intended....)
As long as I'm not in the room feel free to carry on...
Here's a link to a related subject, but it won't hot link. Hope it works. http://www.swoj.com/humour/show.cfm?id=88
